Parental Involvement

At Whitefriars School we value parents as the first educators of their children and we strongly promote the development of teacher/parent relationships to support their children’s learning.

We aim to build an environment in which parents feel welcome and we recognise that a strong working relationship between parents and school greatly supports all aspects of school life.

Parents and other volunteers (eg grandparents) are strongly encouraged to be involved in the many different aspects of school life, including:

  • In the Classroom: Parents/Carers are very welcome to support teachers and students in the classroom, supporting reading, general class activities, art and craft and excursions.
  • Sports Coaching: At Whitefriars School different sporting opportunities are offered outside of school hours. Parents are invited to be involved in roles such as team coach or manager. These roles ensure sporting opportunities are available for our students.
  • Learning Assistance Programme (LAP) Volunteers: Many children value greatly the support of an adult who can help them to develop an interest or to encourage them to develop confidence in themselves. Giving a little time regularly to this as a LAP volunteer is a great gift to a child.
  • Canteen Volunteers: A canteen which aims to provide healthy food is a service offered to our families. Volunteers are greatly valued for the help they provide in this service.
  • Parent Network: The Parent Network works to provide community activities which enable different members of the community to become involved. These include social events and educational/informational sessions.
